Around 12:05 am, police were called to Bromage Road in Abermain, 8 kilometers from Cessnock, after a report that a car involved in a stress had struck a parked car, which finally struck some pedestrians during an unlawful streets meet.
A person, 31, was critically hurt after the vehicle struck six onlookers during the road racing event, leaving an eight-year-old with a broken leg and critically injured an eight-year-old with a broken leg.
The 18-year-old vehicle was also allegedly assaulted at the scene and suffered serious injuries.
He is still being cared for by a police officer.
After the collision, NSW Police Assistant Commissioner Dave Wardell claimed the vehicle was supposedly attacked by group members.
Overnight, two children, eight and ten, watched as vehicles competed in an improper street racing event.
” It is very, very concerning that we have got eight and 10-year-olds out at a road racing event at that time of day”, Wardell said.
” Surely that will be part of our analysis”.
Seven persons, including the pilot, were treated by doctors at the field following the crash.
When the collision occurred, the wounded pedestrians were standing next to a parked car, according to authorities.
One of the people, believed to be the eight-year-old kid, was airlifted to medical by plane.
The Crash Investigations Unit is looking into the event and has established a crime scene.
Wardell claimed that dangerous drivers and road racing events frequently targeted the place.
Anyone who has film or witnessed the incident is urged to call Crime Stoppers or the authorities on 1800 333 000.
